MSFT 5.0, dhcpcd-5.5.6: New Device Fingerprinting Options
Windows and Android Devices Receive Updated VCI Identifiers
DHCP Servers Gain Enhanced Device Identification Capabilities
In a recent update, Microsoft Windows and Android devices have received updated vendor class identifier (VCI) values. These values, which allow DHCP servers to provide tailored responses to specific devices, have been modified as follows:
- Microsoft Windows 10: MSFT 5.0
- Android device: dhcpcd-5.5.6
Additionally, Windows-based devices will now have an updated Client Vendor Name value, which may appear as "MSFT 5.0" instead of the previous "MSFT 5.0."
These changes are available through the "Configuration - Security - Device Fingerprinting - Client Identity" settings. When creating a new entry, you can select "Predefined" to choose from Windows, Android, or iOS options.
The updated VCI values are crucial for DHCP servers to effectively provide personalized responses to different devices. This enhanced device fingerprinting capability improves network management efficiency and security.
